6 Rules to Kick Ass in Life
Sep 27, 2022
We all desire happiness and freedom.
It's the core component that drives why we seek abundance in health, wealth, fulfilling relationships, and prosperity. Yet, you will never achieve it unless your head is in the right place, with beliefs that serve you instead of harming you.
I wish I had known these lessons and applied them sooner. So, I intend to deliver wisdom to those serious about leveling up and progressing to the best version of themselves.
Time is depreciating, so let’s dive in.
Your Only Competition Is You
If you’re focused on competing with others, you’ve lost.
Look at some of the top companies in the world, like Apple, Amazon, and Disney. They aren’t focused on competition. The companies that aren’t as successful compete with them.
But the top dogs dominate. And that’s what I want you to do.
You don’t want to compete with others. Instead, you want to compete with yourself. The goal is to look in the mirror and be better than you were yesterday.
That's your only focus: Progress.
Progress ensures growth, improvement, and, ultimately, happiness.
I believe it’s one of the keys to a happy life.
Focus on getting better and dominate at that.
Get Your Money Right
Here’s the formula I wish I had followed when I was younger: Earn, save, invest, and then spend.
It’s a simple strategy to help you grow your money. I’m no financial guru by any means. However, I’ve made enough mistakes with money to know some rules and have identified financial red flags that you should avoid.
It’s easy for most of us to impulse buy. I’m pretty sure that if spending were a martial art, I’d have an eighth-degree black belt in that discipline.
Practice delayed gratification. Save 15%, and invest another 15% into growing yourself or your business.
If this means no spending money is left over and you can’t go to bars or clubs, then you don’t go.
If you do what’s easy now, your life will be hard. But if you do what’s hard now, then, later on down the road, your life will be easy.
Avoid Negativity
Life is too short to be putting up with negativity.
If you can evade it, do it. If you can cut toxicity out, do so.
We let deceivers like guilt trick us into thinking we should put up with being treated terribly because of the previous history in some of our relationships. Why?
My friends, we get one life. Spend it seeking joy. Cultivate relationships that soothe your soul and support you.
If anyone, or anything, doesn’t make you feel good, simply phase it out of your life.
If You Don’t Go After Your Dreams, You’ll Never Have Them
This principle is something my fellow “manifesters” need to understand.
Rereading The Secret isn’t enough. Vision boards won’t cut it, either. And no matter how often you repeat your affirmations, that alone will not make your wishes come true.
Now, I’m not saying to stop doing those things, especially if they make you feel good!
I want you to focus less on the Law of Attraction and subscribe more to the Law of Action.
If you look at the word “attraction,” you’ll find the secret within it. Look at it again: Attraction.
Action is the secret, and it’s built right into the word.
A fisherman visualizing an abundance of fish is great. But the fish won’t migrate out of the ocean into his living room. He must physically take the action of fishing.
Get your thoughts and feelings right, but please make sure you’re taking massive amounts of action.
See Failure as a Lesson
I wish someone had told me sooner the truth concerning failure.
Screenshot the following sentence and tattoo it on your brain:
Failure is a part of the process of success.
It isn’t a “bump in the road.” It’s a part of the road. It is the road. It’s an essential component of the journey.
We have to fail. Failure is feedback. It provides instant clarification on where we need to grow and improve.
It is not who you are. It is not a label for identity unless you make it that.
Failure is your coach and your best friend on the journey to your dreams and achieving the life you desire. It is not something to fear or to be avoided.
Embrace failure. Say “thank you” to it, and you’ll grow faster.
Our Habits Decide our Future
Often, people wish they had a crystal ball.
We wish we could peer into the future and see what’s coming because we fear the unknown. What if I told you that there was a hack?
You won’t be able to see everything that life will bring, but you can, for the most part, see what will come to be concerning your future.
The crystal ball exists in your daily habits. What are you doing every day?
Your habitual thoughts, and behaviors, are paving the life you will live.
Day in and day out, you sculpt a particular person with your habits. The question naturally becomes: Are your habits helping you or harming you?
Are you binge-watching Netflix while eating a bag of Lay’s every night? If so, that’s a habit, and you’ll gain weight.
Do you procrastinate doing the necessary tasks when it comes to your dreams? If so, you’re not applying your all, and you won’t achieve them.
I challenge you to examine your habits. If they’re harming you by keeping you stagnant, discard them. If they’re helping you, then it’s time to double down.
If you want to know what the future holds for you, study your habits today, for they will create your tomorrow.
Final Thoughts
What you want is entirely possible. However, it will not happen unless you put in the work.
The work is two-fold: You must do the physical work outside of you, and you must do the internal work as well.
Humans aren’t fixed or set in stone. We are constantly changing, morphing, and growing. And with each new phase of life we enter, we have to make sure that we are keeping ourselves accountable on the path to our dreams.
This is why it’s essential to do what David Goggins calls a “live autopsy.” We dissect who we are at any given moment to see how we can improve and level up.
If you want to keep progressing in life, remember to:
- Dominate. Don’t compete.
- Get your money right.
- Avoid negativity.
- Go after your dreams by taking action.
- See failure as a blessing.
- Constantly examine your habits.
Growth is up to you. You always have control over what you’re doing. And what you do, or don’t do, eventually influences who you become.
Make sure you become someone you’re proud of being. Become the best version of yourself.
